French President Emmanuel Macron recently visited Indonesia to strengthen the partnership between the two countries. Macron was warmly welcomed by President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, where he expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and discussed opportunities to enhance strategic collaboration in areas such as the economy, technology, security, and culture.
The diplomatic relations between Indonesia and France have been maintained for 75 years, with significant advancements in the past decade. Macron acknowledged Indonesia’s role in maintaining regional stability in the Indo-Pacific region and commended the progress in bilateral defense cooperation, renewable energy, transportation, and energy transition efforts. Cultural collaboration was also a focus during Macron’s visit, culminating in the signing of a cultural agreement at the Borobudur Temple complex to symbolize the growing friendship between the two nations.
