President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia highlighted the significance of the “Bandung Spirit” during the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Indonesia’s commitment to global peace and adherence to international law were emphasized by President Prabowo at the forum. Airlangga Hartarto, Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, reported that the President reiterated the country’s support for global peace through multilateralism and the importance of upholding international law. President Prabowo also made it clear that he rejects war and the use of double standards in international relations. The “Bandung Spirit”, which emphasizes solidarity among developing nations, was underscored by President Prabowo to his fellow BRICS leaders. This spirit, first established at the 1955 Asian-African Conference in Bandung, Indonesia, was called upon to be relevant within the BRICS forum, especially in addressing the Palestinian issue. Brazil, as the summit’s host country, warmly welcomed the reference to the Bandung principles. They expressed hope that BRICS could revive the Bandung legacy to further advance the interests of developing nations. Indonesia’s Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Arrmanatha Nasir also confirmed the positive reception of Indonesia’s participation as a full member at the summit. Brazil had already invoked the Bandung principles in its opening statement before President Prabowo mentioned the Bandung Spirit during the summit.
