The Government of Indonesia, in partnership with the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP), recently introduced the Sports Scholarship Program to enhance the national sports ecosystem and provide long-term support for sports professionals. This initiative aims to offer scholarships for active and retired athletes, as well as sports experts, to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees, both domestically and internationally. It underscores the government’s dedication to considering sports as a crucial component of sustainable human capital development, focusing on long-term welfare for the sports community. Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, highlighted the program’s role in empowering retired athletes to transition into new career paths beyond competition. The initiative offers two entry tracks: performance enhancement and achievement recognition, enabling sports professionals to contribute to sports science, management, and national policy development. Plans are underway to expand the program to undergraduate levels and revive sports schools across Indonesia to nurture excellence in sports-based education from early development to professional realization. The government’s vision is to cultivate a generation of individuals with a strong sense of sportsmanship through education. The Sports Scholarship Program is lauded for its selective, adaptive, and inclusive nature, providing opportunities for sports professionals to excel and inspire.
