European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has introduced a new visa policy that will simplify the process for Indonesian citizens to enter the European Union. This policy allows Indonesians on their second visit to the EU to be eligible for a multi-entry Schengen visa. The announcement was made during a joint press conference with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Berlaymont Building in Brussels. Von der Leyen stated that this decision aims to strengthen the long-term ties between Indonesia and the EU, particularly in areas such as education, investment, and social exchange.
The visa policy is part of the people-to-people connections pillar in the EU-Indonesia strategic partnership, emphasizing the importance of building bridges between the two nations. President Prabowo expressed his support for deepening EU-Indonesia ties and highlighted the significance of trust and shared values in fostering long-term relationships. He also underlined the partnership’s focus on values, solidarity, and a shared vision for the future.
Prabowo hopes that the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Indonesia and the EU will soon be finalized and signed in Brussels, further strengthening economic cooperation between the two parties. With the implementation of the new visa policy and the deepening economic partnership, Indonesia and the European Union are entering a new phase in their bilateral relations characterized by increased openness, strategic collaboration, and mutual benefits for their citizens.
