Indonesia and the European Union have finally reached a milestone by concluding the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) after a ten-year negotiation process. This agreement signifies a significant breakthrough that will provide Indonesian products with broader access to the European market. In a joint press conference in Brussels, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen celebrated this achievement as a critical and strategic success amidst the global uncertainties.
President Prabowo expressed satisfaction in finalizing the agreement, highlighting how both parties successfully aligned their economic interests for mutual benefit. Similarly, President von der Leyen commended Prabowo’s leadership in bringing the negotiations to a close. She described CEPA as an ambitious free trade agreement with immense economic potential for both Indonesia and the EU.
The CEPA agreement will open up new opportunities for Indonesian products in various sectors such as agriculture, automotive, services, and critical raw materials. President von der Leyen emphasized the importance of securing responsible supply chains that respect environmental and social values. With a combined market of 730 million people between Indonesia and the EU, the implementation of CEPA is expected to transform trade relations in the two regions. President Prabowo expressed hope for a long-term commitment by suggesting that the implementation signing of the CEPA take place in Brussels once again.
